Applying for a Ukraine Visa from Khulna

Khulna is in southwestern Bangladesh, approximately 170 km from Dhaka by road — the shortest distance of any divisional city covered in this guide. The Padma Bridge has significantly reduced journey times. The Ukrainian Embassy is in Gulshan-2, Dhaka, and all Khulna applicants submit visa applications there. This guide covers local preparation, the Dhaka journey, and the full visa process.

Critical fact — read first

No agent in Khulna can process a Ukrainian visa locally. There is one Ukrainian Embassy in Bangladesh — in Gulshan-2, Dhaka — and it is the only place in the country where a Ukrainian visa can be issued. Any Khulna-based agent claiming otherwise is operating fraudulently. If you have doubts about a permit or offer you have received, verify it with us before making any payment.

Which Visa Type Applies — Type D (Long-Stay)

Bangladeshi nationals seeking employment in Ukraine require a Type D long-stay national visa. This visa is issued on the basis of a Ukrainian work permit from the State Employment Service (Державна служба зайнятості, DSZ). The work permit is arranged by your Ukrainian employer in Ukraine — it is not something you or a local agent can obtain from Bangladesh.

Student applicants need a Type D student visa, supported by an official acceptance letter from an accredited Ukrainian university. Both visa types are submitted in person at the Ukrainian Embassy in Dhaka.

The Only Ukrainian Embassy in Bangladesh — Dhaka

Bangladesh has a single Ukrainian Embassy. It is in Gulshan-2, Dhaka. No Ukrainian consular authority operates in Khulna, Barisal, Jessore, or anywhere outside Dhaka. All visa applications from Khulna Division must be submitted in Dhaka.

Step-by-Step Process for Khulna Applicants

01

Your employer secures the Ukrainian work permit

The work permit is filed by your employer with Ukraine's State Employment Service. Processing takes 45–60 business days. You receive the original permit by courier. Do not begin visa preparation until you have the original permit — a copy or scan is not sufficient for the embassy.

02

Prepare all documents in Khulna

Complete your medical fitness check at a BMET-approved centre in or near Khulna. Arrange certified English translation of your employment contract and invitation letter. Collect bank statements (last 3 months), prepare two passport photos, and complete the Ukrainian visa application form. Apply for a CID police clearance certificate — applications can be submitted by post to Dhaka. Allow 2–3 weeks for full document preparation.

03

Travel from Khulna to Dhaka (170 km, 5–6 hours by road)

Khulna is the closest of the major divisional cities to Dhaka by road distance. Since the Padma Bridge opened, the Khulna–Dhaka road journey is approximately 4–5 hours by bus or car. Sundarban Express and Chitra Express trains take approximately 7–8 hours (longer than road due to routing). Stay near Gulshan or Banani for embassy proximity.

04

Attend embassy appointment and submit documents

Arrive during consular hours (09:00 – 12:00) with your complete document file. Biometrics are collected at the appointment. You receive an acknowledgement receipt. Processing typically takes 5–15 business days from the submission date.

05

Return to Khulna — wait for processing

You are not required to stay in Dhaka during visa processing. Given the shorter Khulna–Dhaka road time post-Padma Bridge, many Khulna applicants find it practical to make two day trips or one overnight trip total. VFS Global offers passport courier return — confirm availability at submission to avoid a second Dhaka trip for collection.

06

Complete BMET Smart Card clearance

With your D-visa and original work permit, attend the Khulna BMET office for Smart Card clearance. This is the final mandatory BMET step before airport departure. Processing takes 3–5 business days from complete document submission. Alternatively, complete this step at the BMET head office in Dhaka if you are collecting your passport there.

07

Travel to Ukraine and register within 30 days

On arrival in Ukraine, register your address and apply for a Temporary Residence Permit (TRP) at the local State Migration Service (DMSU) office. This is required within 30 days of entry into Ukraine.

Practical Logistics — Khulna to Dhaka

Khulna is approximately 170 km southwest of Dhaka. The Padma Bridge, which opened in 2022, has significantly shortened road journey times from Khulna and the southwest. Travel options:

By bus (via Padma Bridge)Approximately 4 to 5 hours via Mawa and the Padma Bridge. The fastest road option. Multiple operators daily. Night buses available for arriving in Dhaka early morning before an appointment.
By trainSundarban Express or Chitra Express from Khulna Station — 7 to 8 hours. Longer than road due to railway routing. Comfortable AC carriages available.
By airKhan Jahan Ali Airport in Khulna has limited scheduled services. Check current route availability — flights are not reliably frequent.

Given the improved road connectivity via Padma Bridge, many Khulna applicants can complete a Dhaka embassy appointment as a day trip or short overnight stay. Book accommodation near Gulshan or Banani for embassy proximity. Allow at least one day before your appointment to verify your full document set is in order.

Local Scam Warning — Khulna Agents

Scam alert

Khulna Division has an established worker population in shipping, manufacturing, and the Sundarbans-adjacent agricultural and fishery sectors. Ukrainian employers have recruited Bangladeshi workers in construction and agricultural logistics. Because Ukraine is an unfamiliar destination for many Khulna applicants, some local agents exploit this unfamiliarity. Patterns to watch for: an agent in Khulna or Jessore claims to have an "inside channel" to the Ukrainian consulate; an agent shows you a Ukrainian work permit or visa without your documents having been submitted in Dhaka; an agent claims to guarantee visa approval. These claims are false. Verify any offer using our document verification service before making any payment above normal document preparation costs.
