What to do
- 01.Ensure you have a valid work permit in your name covering your current employer and occupation
- 02.Request documentary evidence that you are registered in the ДСЗ employment register
- 03.If your permit is expiring, initiate renewal at least 60 days before the expiry date
- 04.If you are currently working illegally, seek a legal consultation immediately to understand your options
- 05.Never start work for a new or additional employer without first confirming whether a new permit is required
- 06.Retain copies of all employment contracts and permit documents in a secure location outside your employer's premises
Red flags
RF01Your employer has not registered you with the State Employment Service (ДСЗ) — ask to see the registration
RF02You are paid entirely in cash with no written employment contract in place
RF03You are working for a different employer than the one specifically named on your work permit
RF04Your current work permit has expired and renewal has not been initiated
RF05You entered Ukraine on a tourist or short-stay visa and began work without a permit
RF06Your employer tells you that inspection risk is "low" and a permit "is not necessary"
Legal consequence
Illegal employment triggers a fine of UAH 125,800 per illegally employed foreign national payable by the employer under Ukrainian labour law. The worker faces detention, deportation, and a 1–3 year entry ban depending on the nature of the violation.
