Applying for a Ukraine Visa from Chittagong

There is no Ukrainian consulate or VFS centre in Chittagong. Bangladesh has a single Ukrainian Embassy, located in Gulshan-2, Dhaka. All Chittagong applicants — regardless of district — must travel to Dhaka to submit a visa application. This guide explains how to prepare in Chittagong, plan your Dhaka trip, and complete the full process efficiently.

Critical fact — read first

Any agent in Chittagong claiming they can process a Ukrainian visa locally, or that they have a special channel to the embassy, is lying. There is one Ukrainian Embassy in Bangladesh: Gulshan-2, Dhaka. No application is accepted anywhere else. If an agent is charging you money without sending you to Dhaka, stop and contact us before paying further.

Which Visa Type Applies — Type D (Long-Stay)

Bangladeshi nationals travelling to Ukraine for work or study need a Type D visa — the long-stay national visa. Type D visas for employment are issued on the basis of a Ukrainian work permit issued by the State Employment Service of Ukraine (Державна служба зайнятості, DSZ). You cannot apply for a Type D work visa without a valid, original work permit in hand.

Type C short-stay visas (up to 90 days) are available for business visits or short-term study. Most Bangladeshi workers pursue Type D. This guide focuses on the Type D employment route.

The Only Ukrainian Embassy in Bangladesh — Dhaka

The Embassy of Ukraine in Bangladesh is located in Gulshan-2, Dhaka. It is the sole consular authority for Ukrainian visa decisions in this country. There is no consulate in Chittagong, Sylhet, Rajshahi, or anywhere outside Dhaka.

Step-by-Step Process for Chittagong Applicants

01

Employer secures Ukrainian work permit

Your Ukrainian employer applies to the State Employment Service (DSZ). This takes 45–60 business days. You receive the original permit by post or courier. Do not pay any agent or intermediary who claims they can expedite this from Bangladesh — the permit is issued in Ukraine.

02

Prepare all documents in Chittagong

Complete your medical fitness check at a BMET-approved centre in Chittagong. Obtain certified translations of your employment contract and invitation letter. Prepare bank statements, photos, and your signed visa application form. Allow 2–3 weeks for this stage. Do not travel to Dhaka until all documents are complete.

03

Travel from Chittagong to Dhaka (250 km, 4–5 hours)

Chittagong to Dhaka is approximately 250 km. Sonar Bangla Express and Subarna Express trains take 4–5 hours. Intercity buses via the Dhaka–Chittagong Highway take 5–7 hours. Flights (Hazrat Shahjalal to Shah Amanat or reverse) take 40 minutes. Book accommodation near Gulshan or Banani — within 10–15 minutes of the embassy.

04

Attend embassy appointment and submit documents

Arrive at the consular section (09:00 – 12:00) with your complete document set. Biometrics may be collected. The embassy issues a receipt acknowledging your submission. Processing typically takes 5–15 business days from the submission date — not from the appointment date.

05

Return to Chittagong — wait for processing

Most Chittagong applicants return home after submission and make a second Dhaka trip to collect the visa. VFS Global offers passport return by courier — confirm this service availability before submission if you wish to avoid a second trip.

06

Complete BMET Smart Card clearance

With your D-visa in hand, attend BMET for Smart Card (pre-departure) clearance. This can be done at the Chittagong BMET office for Chittagong Division residents, or at the BMET head office in Dhaka. Processing takes 3–5 business days.

07

Travel to Ukraine and register within 30 days

On arrival in Ukraine, you must register your place of residence and apply for a Temporary Residence Permit (TRP) at the local State Migration Service (DMSU) office within 30 days of entry.

Practical Logistics — Chittagong to Dhaka

Chittagong (Chattogram) is Bangladesh's second-largest city and its main port. The distance to Dhaka is approximately 250 km by road. Typical travel times:

By trainSonar Bangla / Subarna Express — 4 to 5 hours. Departs from Chattogram Station. Recommended option for comfort and predictability.
By busIntercity buses (Green Line, Shyamoli, Hanif) via Dhaka–Chittagong Highway — 5 to 7 hours depending on traffic. Night buses available.
By airShah Amanat International Airport (CGP) to Hazrat Shahjalal (DAC) — 40 minutes flight time. Adds airport transfer time on both ends.

You must remain in Dhaka during visa processing — 5 to 15 business days. Accommodation in Gulshan or Banani puts you closest to the embassy. Alternatively, VFS Global's passport courier service eliminates the second trip.

BMET in Chittagong

The Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) has a district office serving Chittagong Division. You can begin pre-departure registration locally. However, the Smart Card clearance — the mandatory step before airport departure — requires your valid D-visa and work permit. This step follows your Dhaka visa collection, not before it.

NoteSmart Card clearance requires your visa and original work permit — do not attempt this step before collecting your visa from Dhaka.

Local Scam Warning — Chittagong Agents

Scam alert

Chittagong has active recruiting agencies for Gulf and Malaysian labour markets. Ukraine is a less familiar destination in this market, and some agents exploit that unfamiliarity. Common patterns: an agent in Chittagong claims they can process your Ukrainian visa locally without a Dhaka trip; an agent claims to have a special relationship with the Ukrainian consulate; an agent provides a visa or work permit without your passport having left your possession. These are all false. The Ukrainian Embassy in Gulshan-2, Dhaka is the only place in Bangladesh where a Ukrainian visa is issued. If any of these claims are being made to you, see our scam dossiers for documented cases.
