Bangladesh-Specific Ukraine Immigration FAQ

The most common questions we receive every week from Bangladeshi nationals — answered directly, without vague disclaimers.

How to use this FAQ

These answers cover the most common points of confusion for Bangladeshi applicants. They are general information — not legal advice for your specific situation. For a written opinion on your individual case, use our eligibility assessment service.

Can a BAIRA agent get me a Ukrainian work permit?

No. Ukrainian work permits are issued exclusively by the State Employment Service of Ukraine (Державна служба зайнятості — DSZ). No BAIRA-affiliated agent, no Bangladeshi recruiter, and no third-party intermediary anywhere in the world can issue, obtain, or guarantee a Ukrainian work permit. The application must be filed by the Ukrainian employer in Ukraine — no one outside Ukraine has the authority to do this. Any agent claiming otherwise is lying, and is almost certainly defrauding you.

How much should a genuine Ukraine immigration process cost in taka?

A lawful process involves several legitimate costs: eligibility assessment (approx. BDT 3,500), document apostille and international courier (BDT 10,000–25,000), certified Ukrainian translation in Ukraine (BDT 15,000–35,000), State Employment Service fee paid by the employer in Ukraine, visa fee at the Dhaka embassy (approx. BDT 10,000–15,000), and BMET clearance fee (BDT 1,000–3,000). A realistic lawful total is BDT 40,000–80,000, not counting airfare. Any single agent charging BDT 300,000–1,000,000 or more for a "guaranteed" package is almost certainly running a fraud. No legitimate process involves a single large payment to a middleman.

Is there a Ukrainian embassy in Bangladesh?

Yes. The Embassy of Ukraine in the People's Republic of Bangladesh is located in Banani, Dhaka. The consular section handles Type D (long-stay) visa applications for employment, study, business, and family purposes. VFS Global Bangladesh operates as a visa application service centre and may handle some Type C (short-stay) applications. Check the official embassy contact page on mfa.gov.ua and the VFS Global Bangladesh page for current appointment availability, requirements, and hours — these details change periodically.

Do I need BMET clearance to work in Ukraine?

Yes, without exception. BMET Smart Card clearance is mandatory for all Bangladeshi nationals departing Bangladesh for overseas employment, including to Ukraine. You cannot legally leave Bangladesh for work purposes without this clearance. Travelling without BMET clearance is an offence under Bangladeshi law and may result in penalties or complications upon your return. To obtain BMET clearance, you will need your original work permit, visa, and other documents — BMET will not process clearance on the basis of unverified or agent-supplied documents alone.

Can I go to Ukraine first and then get a work permit?

No. This is one of the most dangerous misconceptions in the Bangladesh-Ukraine migration space. The Ukrainian work permit must be obtained in Ukraine — by your employer — before you travel. You then apply for a Type D employment visa at the Ukrainian Embassy in Dhaka based on that permit, and only then travel. Arriving in Ukraine on a tourist (Type C) visa and then trying to find work or convert your visa is illegal. Ukrainian authorities take enforcement seriously and the result is deportation, fines, and a multi-year re-entry ban.

What if I already paid an agent and I'm not sure the documents are real?

Do not travel until you have independently verified the documents. If you have received a document purporting to be a Ukrainian work permit, verify the permit number directly with the State Employment Service of Ukraine (dszua.gov.ua) or contact us for a paid document verification. Fake permits are common and often visually convincing. If the documents cannot be verified or the permit number does not exist in the DSZ database, they are fake. Do not travel on fake documents — the consequences at the Ukrainian border are severe: detention, deportation, and a ban. Report the agent to BMET and Bangladesh police and preserve all records of what you paid.

How do I find a real Ukrainian employer?

Legitimate Ukrainian employers advertise vacancies through official job boards (work.ua, robota.ua), professional networks, and direct industry recruitment. They do not typically source Bangladeshi workers through BAIRA-affiliated brokers charging large upfront fees. A genuine employer relationship looks like this: the employer contacts you about a specific role, provides a written job offer, applies for your work permit through the DSZ, and does not ask you to pay for the permit process. Be extremely sceptical of any "employer" whose offer reached you through an agent charging a large commission — in most cases there is no real employer at all.

Can my family join me in Ukraine?

Yes, under the family reunification route — but only after you have established your own lawful residence status in Ukraine. Once you hold a valid Temporary Residence Permit (TRP) based on work, you can sponsor a Type D family visa and subsequent family TRP for your spouse and minor children. The process requires notarised and apostilled marriage certificates and birth certificates, translated into Ukrainian. There is a processing timeline involved — typically several months from application to TRP card issuance. Family members cannot join you on the basis of your visa alone; the TRP must be in place first.

Can I travel to Ukraine on a tourist visa and find work there?

No. The Type C tourist or visitor visa does not authorise employment in Ukraine under any circumstances. Working without a valid work permit and the appropriate Type D employment visa is illegal under Ukrainian law, regardless of whether the work is casual, part-time, or paid in cash. The consequences are severe: deportation, administrative fines levied against both you and the employer, and a multi-year entry ban. The work permit must be obtained by your Ukrainian employer — before you travel — and you must hold a Type D visa before entering Ukraine for work purposes.

How do I verify a Ukrainian work permit is genuine?

Genuine Ukrainian work permits are issued by the State Employment Service (Державна служба зайнятості — DSZ) and carry a unique serial number registered in the DSZ database. You can attempt to verify a permit by contacting the DSZ directly through their official channels (dszua.gov.ua), or by using our document verification service. The employer's EDRPOU (company registration number) should also be verifiable at data.gov.ua. If an agent or employer cannot provide a verifiable permit serial number, or if the permit number returns no result in official records, treat the document as fraudulent. Do not travel on an unverified permit.

What is an EDRPOU code and why does it matter?

EDRPOU (Єдиний державний реєстр підприємств та організацій України) is Ukraine's official business registration number — equivalent to a company registration number. Every legally operating Ukrainian employer has one. You can verify any EDRPOU code free of charge at data.gov.ua to confirm the company exists, is active, and has not been liquidated. If a prospective employer cannot provide an EDRPOU code, or if the code you verify does not match the company name you were given, the employer does not legally exist in Ukraine. A work permit issued to a non-existent employer is fraudulent on its face.

What happens if I overstay my visa in Ukraine?

Overstaying a Ukrainian visa or Temporary Residence Permit is an administrative offence with serious consequences. Penalties include fines, a mandatory departure order, and a re-entry ban of 1 to 5 years depending on the length of overstay. If the overstay is combined with unauthorised employment, it can escalate to deportation proceedings and a longer ban. Ukrainian immigration enforcement has become stricter in recent years. If your visa is approaching expiry and you are unable to depart or have not yet received your TRP, contact a Ukrainian immigration lawyer immediately — before the visa expires, not after.

Does Kyiv Pathway charge for all advice?

We charge for substantive legal advice: a written eligibility assessment is $30 and a full legal consultation is $249. We also charge for services such as document review and employer verification. Brief factual questions about our process — how to book, what services we offer, what a specific document type is — can be answered via WhatsApp without charge. We do not provide free case-by-case legal opinions, assessments of individual situations, or document reviews without payment. This policy exists because our advice is produced by Ukrainian-licensed lawyers and has real cost.

Does Bangladesh have a bilateral labour agreement with Ukraine?

As of 2026, Bangladesh and Ukraine do not have a formal bilateral labour agreement (BLA) that covers mutual recognition of worker rights or streamlined permit procedures. Bangladesh has BLAs with several Gulf states and some Asian countries, but Ukraine is not among them. The absence of a BLA means Bangladeshi workers in Ukraine rely entirely on Ukrainian domestic immigration law — the standard work permit through DSZ — without any special facilitation or protection framework. This is also why BMET clearance is especially important: it is one of the few legal protections a Bangladeshi worker has when there is no bilateral treaty framework.

How long can I stay in Ukraine as a tourist without a visa?

Bangladeshi passport holders are not visa-exempt for Ukraine. Unlike EU or US citizens who may enter Ukraine without a visa for short stays, Bangladeshi nationals require a visa for any entry into Ukraine regardless of purpose or duration. You cannot enter Ukraine as a tourist without obtaining a Type C (short-stay) visa from the Ukrainian Embassy in Dhaka in advance. There is no visa-on-arrival facility for Bangladeshi citizens. Attempting to enter Ukraine without a visa will result in refusal of entry at the border.

Can I bring my family to Ukraine on a dependent TRP?

Yes — but through the family reunification TRP ground, not as dependants on your own TRP. Once you have established a valid TRP based on employment, business, or study, your spouse and minor children (under 18) can apply for a family-based TRP in Ukraine. The process requires: notarised and apostilled marriage certificate (for spouse) and birth certificates (for children), translated into Ukrainian; proof of your valid TRP; proof of financial support; and registered address accommodation for the family members. Family TRP applications are filed at DMSU. Processing time mirrors the standard TRP timeline — 15–30 working days. Your family members will each receive their own TRP card. They do not have automatic work rights on a family TRP; separate work authorisation is needed if they wish to work.

Is Bengali widely spoken in Ukraine?

No. Ukrainian is the official language and is the language of all government offices, courts, and official documents. Russian was previously widely used in eastern and southern Ukraine, but since 2022 its use has significantly declined in official contexts. English is spoken among some urban professionals and at international universities — but not in government offices or at DMSU. Bengali is spoken only within the Bangladeshi diaspora community. This has practical implications: all your DMSU appointments, work permit paperwork, and legal documents will be in Ukrainian. You will need a licensed Ukrainian interpreter for government appointments if you do not speak Ukrainian. Do not rely on Google Translate or informal interpreters for legal document submissions.
