Ukraine Visa Process for Bangladeshi Citizens

Type D visa subtypes, Dhaka embassy address and appointment booking, complete document checklists, consular interview, processing times, common rejections, and post-approval steps.

No Visa-Free Access — All Bangladeshi Nationals Require a Visa

Bangladesh does not have a visa-free arrangement with Ukraine. All Bangladeshi nationals require a visa to enter Ukraine regardless of purpose or duration of stay. There is no electronic travel authorisation (ETA) option for Bangladeshi passport holders for Ukraine entry. There is no visa-on-arrival at Ukrainian ports of entry.

Ukrainian Embassy in Dhaka — Address and Contact

Embassy location

Embassy of Ukraine in the People's Republic of Bangladesh
House 3, Road 23, Block J, Banani, Dhaka 1213
Email: emb_bd@mfa.gov.ua
Official site: mfa.gov.ua (search "Bangladesh")

All applicants from Bangladesh — regardless of home city — must travel to Dhaka to submit in person. There are no postal submission options and no alternative centres outside Dhaka. Applicants from Chittagong, Sylhet, Rajshahi, Khulna, and Barisal must plan travel to Dhaka for the submission appointment.

Appointment Booking

For Type D (national long-stay) visas, appointments are booked directly with the Embassy. Email emb_bd@mfa.gov.ua to request an appointment, stating the visa type (D-1 employment, D-3 study, D-4 family, or D-5 business), your name, passport number, and the primary supporting document you hold (e.g., work permit number). The Embassy's current appointment procedures should be confirmed on mfa.gov.ua before sending the request — procedures change periodically.

VFS Global Bangladesh may handle document collection for some Type C (short-stay) visa categories — for Type D long-stay visas, contact the Embassy directly. Do not rely on intermediaries claiming to book appointments "faster" through back channels; this is not possible.

What Is a Type D Visa?

A Type D visa (national long-stay visa) authorises entry into Ukraine and stays exceeding 90 days. It is the visa category required for Bangladeshi nationals travelling to Ukraine for employment, study, or family reunification. A Type D visa can be issued as a single-entry or multiple-entry document — multiple-entry is standard for employment visas. The visa does not by itself authorise employment; a work permit is the employment authorisation. The D-visa is the entry authorisation allowing you to enter Ukraine to then apply for a TRP and begin working under the existing work permit.

Type D Visa Subtypes

D-1 EmploymentFor workers with a valid Ukrainian work permit. The work permit number is cited on the visa application and the original permit is submitted as the primary supporting document.
D-3 StudyFor students enrolled at a state-accredited Ukrainian university. The official admission letter (запрошення) is the key supporting document.
D-4 FamilyFor family reunification with a Ukrainian citizen or with a foreign national holding Ukrainian permanent residence. Apostilled and translated relationship documents required.
D-5 BusinessFor founders/directors of registered Ukrainian companies. Requires company registration documents and evidence of business activity.

Consular Interview

The Embassy of Ukraine in Dhaka may require an interview for any visa application type at the consular officer's discretion. Interviews are more likely for applicants without prior Ukrainian visa history, with prior visa refusals from any country, or with documentation that requires clarification. If an interview is required, the Embassy will contact you to schedule it.

Common consular interview questions for D-1 employment applicants:

  • How did you find this employer? How were you recruited?
  • What is the employer's full company name and EDRPOU code?
  • What are your job duties and where will you be working?
  • What is your salary and how will you be paid?
  • What are your plans after the employment contract ends?
  • Do you have family in Bangladesh? What are their circumstances?

Consular interviews are not adversarial — they are an opportunity to confirm your documentation accurately represents your situation. Honest, consistent answers that align with your documents work in your favour. Inconsistencies or evasive answers are the main cause of interview-related refusals.

Processing Times and Fees

Type D employment visa (D-1)10–15 working days from submission of complete documentation. Up to 21 working days if DSZ verification of the work permit is requested by the Embassy.
Type D student visa (D-3)10–15 working days from submission of complete documentation.
Type D family visa (D-4)10–21 working days depending on document verification requirements.
Urgent processingAvailable for an additional fee — confirm current urgent fee with the Embassy before relying on this option. Not always available.
Consular feeConfirm current rate in BDT at mfa.gov.ua or by emailing emb_bd@mfa.gov.ua before your appointment. Fees change periodically and must be paid in the currency and format specified by the Embassy.

Common Rejection Reasons

  • Work permit not verifiable: the permit number does not appear in DSZ records, or the employer EDRPOU is inactive. The Embassy cross-checks. A fraudulent work permit causes immediate refusal.
  • Incomplete documentation: missing a required item from the checklist. The Embassy does not accept partial submissions.
  • Insufficient financial proof: bank statement not meeting format requirements or showing an insufficient or erratic balance pattern.
  • Insurance with war exclusion: any policy that excludes Ukraine or armed conflict coverage is rejected for this purpose. Read the policy exclusions carefully.
  • Prior visa refusals undisclosed: the application form asks about previous refusals. Concealing a refusal is treated more seriously than the underlying refusal — it is a form of misrepresentation.
  • Invitation letter from an unverifiable entity: university or company cited in the supporting documents cannot be confirmed in Ukrainian government registries.
  • Doubt about return intent: applicants with no strong ties to Bangladesh (no family, no property, no employment) may face heightened scrutiny about intention to depart Ukraine at the end of the visa period.

After Approval — Post-Visa Steps

  • Verify the visa sticker: before leaving the Embassy window, check that your name, passport number, visa type (D-1/D-3/D-4/D-5), entry dates, number of entries, and duration are correct. Error corrections require a new appointment.
  • Complete BMET Smart Card clearance (if not already done) before departure from Bangladesh. This is legally required for all work and study departures.
  • Book travel to arrive within the visa validity window. The visa start date is the earliest you can enter Ukraine; the expiry date is the latest. Do not arrive outside these dates.
  • On arrival: register your stay at DMSU within 15 working days of entering Ukraine. For workers, apply for TRP at the same time. Do not delay this registration.
  • Keep the visa and entry stamp: your visa and entry stamp are important evidence of your lawful entry for all subsequent immigration applications in Ukraine.
