Bangladesh to Ukraine: Complete Travel and Entry Guide for Bangladeshi Workers

Arriving in Ukraine on a work permit is the culmination of 4–6 months of preparation. The travel and entry phase is where that preparation is tested — by immigration officers, by the absence of direct flights, and by the realities of the first 72 hours in an unfamiliar country. This guide covers everything from Dhaka airport to TRP application window.

Before you book

Do not book any flights until your D-visa is physically in your passport and you have verified the visa details (name, passport number, dates, category). Rebooking or cancelling international flights is expensive. Arriving at the Ukrainian border without a valid visa or with an expired visa is grounds for immediate refusal of entry and return to Bangladesh at your own cost.

Flight Routes from Dhaka to Ukraine

There are no direct flights between Dhaka (DAC) and any Ukrainian airport. All routes require at least one connection. The total journey from Dhaka to Kyiv or Lviv typically takes 14–22 hours depending on the connection city and layover length. Allow a minimum 3-hour connection at all transit airports — tighter connections risk missing the onward flight and require a rebooking that may delay your entry.

01

Via Istanbul (most common)

Turkish Airlines operates Dhaka–Istanbul (IST) with onward connections to Kyiv Boryspil (KBP) and Lviv (LWO). This is the most common route for Bangladeshi workers and typically offers the most competitive pricing. Biman Bangladesh Airlines may have a codeshare arrangement on this routing — check current schedules as codeshare availability changes seasonally.

Transit visa requirement: Most Bangladeshi passport holders do not require a transit visa for airside transit at Istanbul — but verify this directly with Turkish Airlines at time of booking, as transit rules can change. Total journey time: approximately 14–18 hours.

02

Via Dubai (Emirates / flydubai)

Emirates and flydubai operate Dhaka–Dubai (DXB) connections to Kyiv Boryspil (KBP). This route is well-served and often has more flexibility on departure times. Bangladeshi nationals generally do not require an airside transit visa at Dubai for transit under 24 hours — verify with the airline at booking.

Note: flydubai serves Kyiv Boryspil. Ensure your onward ticket is to KBP specifically if using this route. Total journey time: approximately 16–20 hours.

03

Via Warsaw (LOT Polish Airlines)

LOT operates Warsaw (WAW) connections to Lviv (LWO). This route is particularly relevant for workers placed in western Ukraine (Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil oblasts), where Lviv airport is more convenient than Kyiv. Warsaw connections typically route through a Gulf or European hub from Dhaka. Bangladeshi nationals require a Schengen visa for airside transit in Warsaw — if you do not have one, avoid this routing.

Total journey time: approximately 18–22 hours.

Which airport to use?

If your employer is in central or eastern Ukraine, fly into Kyiv Boryspil (KBP). If your employer is in western Ukraine (Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Uzhhorod, Ternopil, Vinnytsia), Lviv airport (LWO) is closer and reduces domestic transit time. Confirm the destination airport with your employer before booking.

Documents to Carry in Hand Luggage

These documents must be in your hand luggage — not checked. If your checked bag is lost or delayed, a missing employment document can cause serious problems at immigration.

Ukrainian Border Entry — Kyiv Boryspil (KBP) or Lviv (LWO)

The immigration procedure at both major Ukrainian international airports follows the same general process. Allow 45–90 minutes for the full immigration and customs clearance, longer during peak arrival periods.

01

Passport control

Approach the immigration officer and present your passport open to the D-visa page. Have your work permit and employment contract ready to show but do not present them unless asked — the officer will request what they need. Common questions at immigration include:

  • "What is the purpose of your visit?" — Answer: employment
  • "Where are you going?" — Provide employer address or destination city
  • "Do you have a job offer?" — Show work permit
  • "How long are you planning to stay?" — State the duration of your work permit

Answer clearly and briefly. If an officer asks to see your employment contract or work permit, provide it without hesitation. Do not offer unsolicited information.

02

Entry stamp

The officer stamps your passport with the entry date and entry point. This stamp is legally significant. The 15-working-day window for your TRP application starts from this date. Do not fold, mark, or damage the entry stamp page. If you ever renew or extend your stay, immigration officers will check that this stamp exists and is legible.

03

Customs declaration

Ukraine requires a customs declaration for cash over USD 10,000 (or equivalent). If you are carrying foreign currency above this threshold, declare it — failure to declare is a serious legal violation. For most workers arriving with travel funds, no declaration is required.

Do not carry undeclared items requested by others — this is a customs and criminal law risk regardless of how the item was described to you.

Do not overstay

Even a single day of overstay on a Ukrainian visa or after TRP expiry triggers legal consequences under Ukrainian immigration law — including fines, forced departure orders, and multi-year entry bans. These consequences persist even if you subsequently obtain a work permit. Never rely on an agent's assurance that overstay "will be fixed later." It cannot be fixed from inside Ukraine without formal legal proceedings.

Safety and Conflict Context

Ukraine is engaged in an ongoing armed conflict in its eastern and southern oblasts. Most Bangladeshi workers are employed in western and central Ukraine — Kyiv, Lviv, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, Ivano-Frankivsk — which are significantly removed from active front-line areas. However, air raid alerts occur across the country, including Kyiv.

Before departure and immediately upon arrival, take the following steps:

  • Download the єАлерт app (available on iOS and Android) before you depart Dhaka. This is the official Ukrainian air raid alert application — it sends real-time notifications when an air raid alert is issued for your region. Having this app active is not optional; it is a basic safety requirement for living in Ukraine.
  • At Kyiv Boryspil airport, air raid shelter locations are marked by signage — note them during transit.
  • Ask your employer on Day 1 to show you the nearest shelter to your accommodation and to your workplace.
  • Register your presence with the Bangladesh Embassy in Kyiv after arrival — contact details are available at mfa.gov.bd.

The First 72 Hours After Arrival

The first three days in Ukraine are the most administratively dense. Missing the mandatory registration window creates legal complications that can delay your TRP application.

Day 1

Place-of-residence registration (deadline: Day 3)

Ukrainian law requires all foreign nationals to register their place of residence within 3 calendar days of entry. This registration — sometimes called "propiska" in common usage — is done either by the property owner (landlord or employer-provided accommodation manager) at the local DMSU office, or in some cases online through the employer.

Your employer should have arranged this in advance. Confirm on Day 1 that they have done so or are doing so immediately. Do not assume it has happened — ask for the registration document (довідка про реєстрацію місця проживання) and keep a copy.

Day 1–3

Save emergency numbers

Add these numbers to your phone immediately:

  • 112 — General emergency (police, fire, ambulance)
  • 102 — Police
  • 103 — Ambulance
  • 101 — Fire service
  • Your employer's Ukrainian mobile number
  • Bangladesh Embassy in Kyiv: verify current number at mfa.gov.bd before departure
Day 1–5

Open a Ukrainian bank account

Your employer is legally required to pay your salary in UAH by bank transfer to a Ukrainian account. Opening a personal current account requires your passport, TRP (once issued), and in some banks a Ukrainian tax identification number (РНОКПП / IPN). Your employer should assist with this process — many Ukrainian banks have English-speaking branch staff and can process account opening within 1–2 days.

For remittance options once you have an account and are receiving salary, see our guide to sending money from Ukraine to Bangladesh.

Within 15 working days of arrival

Submit TRP application to DMSU

This is the most important administrative deadline after arrival. The TRP application must be submitted to the State Migration Service of Ukraine (DMSU) within 15 working days of your entry stamp date. Missing this deadline is a legal violation that can result in fines and complications with your TRP approval.

See the full TRP process and document list in our week-by-week timeline guide (Phase 4) and in our TRP guide for Bangladeshi nationals.

Accommodation: What Should Be Arranged Before You Land

Your employer or their designated representative should have confirmed your first night's accommodation before your departure from Dhaka. You should have a full address, a contact name, and a phone number for the person meeting you or managing the accommodation.

If your employer has not arranged accommodation and is vague about first-night arrangements, this is a serious red flag that should prompt you to delay travel and clarify directly — or to stop the engagement entirely if no clear answer is provided. Do not travel to Ukraine with only an assurance that accommodation will be "arranged on arrival" by an unverified contact.

Next steps

A smooth entry depends entirely on what you did in the 4–6 months before departure. If you still have questions about whether your documents are in order before you travel, a document review is the most direct check you can do.
