Regardless of which ground you apply on, a TRP application must be submitted before your D-type visa expires — or within 15 days of arrival for most grounds. The DMSU (State Migration Service of Ukraine) enforces this deadline strictly. Overstaying before filing a TRP application creates a separate legal problem that is difficult and expensive to resolve.
Timeline by Ground
| Ground | Application deadline | Official processing time | Realistic processing time | Common delay |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Work (employment) | Within 15 days of arrival or before D-visa expiry | 15 working days | 30–45 days | DMSU appointment backlog; incomplete registered address proof |
| Study | Within 15 days of arrival | 15 working days | 20–35 days | University enrollment confirmation not yet issued; missing notarised translations |
| Business (company owner) | Within 15 days of arrival or before D-visa expiry | 30 working days | 30–50 days | Company registration extract not ready; EDRPOU pending |
| Family reunification | Within 15 days of arrival | 30 working days | 35–60 days | Sponsor's TRP renewal pending; notarised marriage/birth certificate translations rejected |
| TRP extension (any ground) | Apply at least 1 month before current TRP expires | Same as initial application per ground | Same as initial | Leaving extension too late; change in employment that invalidates original ground |
Work-Based TRP: What to Expect Step by Step
The work-based TRP is the most common ground for Bangladeshi applicants entering Ukraine on a D-employment visa. After arriving in Ukraine, the following sequence applies:
Arrival registration (within 3 days of arrival)
Ukrainian law requires all foreign nationals to register their place of temporary residence within 3 days of arrival. This is typically handled by the employer, hotel, or accommodation provider. The registration document (address confirmation) is required for the TRP application — do not move address without re-registering.
If your employer does not assist with registration, go to the local DMSU office or registration office in the city where you will live. Do not skip this step — it is a legal requirement and absence of registration document will block your TRP application.
Book DMSU appointment (as soon as possible after arrival)
DMSU appointment slots in major cities — particularly Kyiv — can be booked out 2–4 weeks in advance. Book your appointment immediately on arrival, not when you have assembled all your documents. Prepare documents while waiting for the appointment. The appointment deadline is 15 days from arrival, but booking may need to happen before that given wait times.
If appointments are full within the 15-day window, attend the DMSU office and explain your situation. They may accommodate urgent cases.
Submit TRP application at DMSU (before D-visa expiry)
Documents required for work-based TRP: valid passport, D-employment visa, original work permit, signed employment contract, registered address confirmation, two passport photos, and completed DMSU application form. All non-Ukrainian documents must have certified Ukrainian translations notarised in Ukraine.
The DMSU officer reviews documents at the appointment. Accepted documents trigger card production. Rejected documents mean you return with corrections — this loses appointment time and may push you past the deadline.
Wait for TRP card production (15–45 days)
Official production time is 15 working days for work-based TRP. Under current wartime conditions and DMSU staffing constraints, this often runs to 30–45 days. You will be notified when the card is ready. Collection is in person at the DMSU office where you submitted.
While your TRP application is under review, your D-visa serves as your legal authorisation to remain in Ukraine. Do not travel outside Ukraine during this period — re-entry may complicate the pending application.
Common Delay Causes and How to Prevent Them
| Delay cause | Typical time added | Prevention |
|---|---|---|
| Incomplete registered address proof | 1–2 weeks | Register address within 3 days of arrival; keep the original registration document safe |
| Missing notarised Ukrainian translations | 1–2 weeks | Arrange translations before or immediately after arrival; use licensed Ukrainian translators only |
| DMSU appointment backlog (Kyiv offices) | 2–4 weeks | Book appointment on the day of arrival, not when documents are ready |
| TRP extension filed too late | Legal jeopardy; fines possible | Apply minimum 1 month before TRP expiry; set a calendar reminder |
| Employer contract or work permit expired before TRP renewal | Depends on how quickly employer renews permit | Ensure employer renews work permit well in advance; track permit expiry date yourself |
Staying Legal While Waiting
Between filing your TRP application and receiving the card, your D-type visa remains your legal authorisation to be in Ukraine. The DMSU issues an acknowledgement receipt for submitted applications — keep this document on your person at all times during the waiting period.
Do not travel outside Ukraine while your TRP application is pending. Leaving Ukraine while a TRP application is under review may be treated as abandonment of the application. If you must travel urgently, consult your immigration lawyer first — they can advise on the implications for your specific case and jurisdiction.
TRP renewal must be initiated at least one month before the current TRP expiry date. Leaving the renewal application until the last days of the TRP validity is a common and entirely avoidable mistake that creates legal uncertainty for weeks.
